Break out your fishing gear because the waters of Quamichan Lake will soon be stocked full of trout thanks to the Quamichan Watershed Stewardship Society, the Freshwater Fisheries Society and fourth graders from Queen of Angels School.

Buckets in hand, there's sure to be some squealing as the fish are released into the waters off Art Mann Park, just down the street from the school.

Kai Rietzel, the Stewards' recently hired project coordinator, said the group will release catchable-sized cuthroat trout on Nov. 18.

"A lot of people don't realize that Quamichan Lake is stocked," Rietzel said. "We want to let people know that it's there, it's a great lake to fish in or bring your kayak out to and enjoy."

Rietzel said in the spring the Quamichan Stewards would like to host a fishing derby to promote the lake and all it's beauty.

"And we're hoping some of the fish are still in the lake and haven't been caught over the winter," she said with a laugh.

Stay tuned for details.
